![]() Probably no more than 100 rounds grand total lifetime. I've shot suppressed 5.56 (always on an SBR) on a handful of occasions in my life. This question came up as much from me as him. To provide a little backup for the OP, he and I are friends and email back and forth all the time about gear and shit. So seriously, what am I missing? What is the big draw? I know that a good suppressor can reduce the 5.56 sound level down to around the level of an unsuppressed 22LR but that still not what I consider hearing safe for more then a occasional round or 2? The 5.56 round is a pussy cat recoil wise and there is no subsonic 5.56mm round so even with the best suppressor they are still loud. are still loud but can see a significant reduction in recoil. ![]() Rounds like the 22LR, 9mm, 45ACp, 300BLK can be made very quiet with the right suppressor and subsonic ammo. Seems to me that the main 2 general reasons for a civy to suppress their firearms (outside of hunting or keeping neighbors happy) is too either get the sound down to a hearing safe level and/or in the case of some larger rounds, reduce recoil. Obviously understand the need and/or desire for class 3 stuff, including suppressors but I'm just not getting the purpose of suppressing 5.56mm? I have a form 1 pending for my second SBR lower and form 4's pending for a Dead Air Mask 22 and SiCo Octane 9. Like a lot of you, I'm trying to get the stuff I want now before 41F and the November elections. This is simply a "Why bother suppressing 5.56mm at all" type thread? This is not a why get a 308 or hybrid can vs dedicated 5.56 can thread.
